Despite the winter air being so bitingly cold,
people somehow—or perhaps because of it—
tend to intensely imagine "warmth."
Every time a white breath escapes,
it feels as if my body, which should still be cold,
is desperately searching for heat somewhere far away.
By embracing the cold,
we become more sensitive to the "heat" lurking within—
Winter is a season of such paradox.
A hot drink in a mug,
a slightly-too-hot canned coffee,
a steaming pot,
a slowly warming futon...
Even though the outside air is cold,
there are moments when my heart gradually feels a glow,
and that temperature difference
awakens two subtly aching "heats."
The chilly silence
and the warmth that slowly buds.
These two, which should originally be in opposition,
mysteriously coexist in the same place only in winter.
Precisely because it's cold, people imagine, seek, and hold onto warmth,
trying to face it positively.
That "winter paradox" struck me as beautiful.
Twin Heat: Winter Warmth
is a small flame lit in the cold,
a work themed around two fluctuating temperatures.
A story of warmth
found in each person's winter.
